the Finished Bunny Box

So yesterday, I finished the bunny box. I ended up using only one pattern paper for her name and a solid color for her location. My sister was nice enough to let me use her Cricket for the letters. The bunny with glasses (as requested) was placed on the side. The swirls were painted on and the flowers were stamped. It all seemed to tie in together with the rug and colors chosen. The g-pa was very happy with the results.

Bunny Box

I have a new art project. It just arrived tonight and I'm already excited to get started on it. It is a handmade "box" ... I'd be more inclined to call it a table or stand... used for grooming bunny rabbits. The maker of the box created it for his 16 year old granddaughter who shows rabbits. And I know she's gonna love it. The legs are black and the box has a pale pink wash on it. The g-daughter's favorite color combo is turquoise and brown (one of mine too!). The maker also was clever enough to pick out a playful rug to line the inside of the box. How FUN! So working off the legs, box, rug, and fave color combo... my job is to make all that come together with her name and location (and possibly small illustration). So paint, paper, maybe ribbon, oh my.

I just sat it on the top, but it'll be cut down to fit inside the box.

some paper I might use on it.

NO to Porn!

So the publisher sent me some excerpts to the books (as I requested) and didn't seem so bad til I got to the exploiting of children, rape, incest, and religious slander. So, I said NO way. Too bad, too. It would have been nice to do some design and earn some moolah.

Projects and JOB opps.

Some of you know that I had a project to build a cabinet for my movies and, as most things often do, it took me a long time to finish. I actually finished this project a few months ago, but never put it up inside. It sat in the garage collecting dust in the crevices of the beautiful carvings I did on the doors. So to humor myself for all my hard work and never actually getting to enjoy it everyday, I decided to set it up inside and see how it looks before hauling it off to storage. So here is the cabinet I designed and built.

Love it! Looks so awesome with the green walls.

Pause. Deep breath. Mental Picture. Ok, off to storage with you.

Other news. This week, I have been offered some freelance graphic design work (mentioned in my last post). I'm pretty sure I'm going to do it. Looks like it's going to be 3 book covers. One would be an illustrated work and the other 2 would be using photos (supplied artwork).

AND.......... Looks like I have another painting in my near future, too. A friend of the person who received my last painting, was so impressed that he wants something, too. His granddaughter "shows" rabbits and uses some sort of box to do so. He designed and built the box (I haven't seen it yet) and he wants me to paint it. Yay!! I'm super siked about it. Not sure if it's going on the road with us or what but that will be figured out later.

And the Owner loved it

So I had the new owner over for dinner the other night and surprised him with his painting. He was very pleased and it was hanging on his wall by the next day.

Feels good to be checking things off my never ending list. Repainted all the trim yesterday after the hail damage we got from the recent storm.

Trying to throw a little fun in there when I can. I watched a friends little girl yesterday and we went for a 2 hour bike ride. YES in this heat. She's only 10 but she managed to master riding my adult cruiser bike. We road all the way to Sedgewick County Park and then to Brahms for some ice cream and then home. Of course, we stopped and played at the park though too. WooWee the seats on the teeter-totters are HOT! (I'm going to have to start taking more pictures now.)

Oh, yeah. I also received a call from a fellow designer in town wanting to pass on some freelance work. From what he's told me, they are book covers of an erotic nature and he doesn't want to get involved with that. Hmmm. Do I? I figure, as long as its not porn and it's "tasteful" .... and maybe ask that my name is no where in it... I might do it.

Finish Painting!

Yay, it's done!
One full day of painting ended up being 3 full days instead. Isn't that just how it is.

It started out as a 24 x24 piece of plywood... then was decoupaged (very ...hmmm, should I say "roughly") with aged pages from a 1979 (the year I was born) Readers Digest.
The articles and ads are related to the subject matter of the painting... a couple months then passed... this week I painted the background clouds and hills (my favorite part! too bad I forgot to take a picture of just that) allowing some of the key words and some images to show through...drew, cut out and painted the remaining key images...added the words...and then decoupaged the images on and gave it a top coat. Still need to figure out how to hang it because it's only a 1/4" thick. Then it will be off to its new owner.

Here's the finished painting

and a couple detailed shots.

Just painting and not worrying about anything else was pretty nice while it lasted, but back to reality for now. Just got to remember, we can always visit these fun memories when ever we need to.

a full day of PAINTING!

I decided that today was going to be a full day of nothin' but painting. I have been putting off a project for quite some time now and wanted to complete it before hittin' the road. I was going to wait to have my first post be the first day on the road, but hey! this is quite fitting too.

This is actually a mini version of what I am going to paint (not finished yet, either). Sometimes its good to test out the colors and layout, etc before doing the real thing. I'll let you all see how the real one turns out. :)
